What Bowl & Loaf records, what Google records when an ad is served, and how to turn advertising cookies off.

Last updated 6 November 2026

Bowl & Loaf has no accounts, no newsletter and no comment section, so there is very little to collect. This page sets out the small amount that does get recorded, why, and what you can do about it.

What this site collects

Three things, and only three:

  • Request data. The server that delivers these pages logs the page requested, the time, the browser and operating system, and an IP address. Hosting providers keep these logs to run the site and to defend against abuse.
  • Email. If you write to contact@bowloaf.me, the message and your address are kept so a reply can be sent. Nothing is added to a mailing list.
  • Small preferences in your browser. The site remembers whether you dismissed the cookie notice. That value stays in your browser and is never sent to us.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a site can store in your browser. Bowl & Loaf sets one of its own, to remember that you have seen the cookie notice. No other cookies are set at present.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them does not stop the recipes from working; it only means the notice appears again.

Advertising

Bowl & Loaf uses Google AdSense to serve advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on those visits.

No advertisements are displayed and no advertising cookies are set until the AdSense account is approved. When approval arrives, this page does not change; the ads simply start appearing.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings at https://adssettings.google.com, and opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at https://www.aboutads.info/choices/.

Readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom are asked for consent before advertising cookies are used, through a consent message on the site, and can change that choice later from the same message.

Ads are chosen by Google, not by this site, and your email address is never passed to an advertiser.

Analytics

No third-party analytics script is installed at the time of writing. If one is added later, it will be named on this page before it goes live.

How the information is used

For three purposes only:

  • to deliver the pages and keep the site running
  • to answer email that you send
  • to detect abuse and keep the site available

Legal bases for readers in the EEA and UK

Where the GDPR applies, request logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interests: the site cannot be operated or protected without them. Advertising cookies are used only on the basis of consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or a country with similar rules, you can ask what personal data is held about you, ask for a copy, ask for correction or deletion, and object to processing. California residents can ask what categories of information are collected and request deletion, and will not be treated differently for asking.

Write to contact@bowloaf.me. Requests are answered within the period the law allows. Because there are no accounts here, most requests will concern an email you sent or a log entry, and the honest answer may be that nothing identifiable is held.

Children

The site is written for adults cooking at home and is not directed at children under 13. Information is not knowingly collected from children. If a child has sent an email and you would like it removed, write to the address above and it will be deleted.

How long information is kept

Emails are kept while they are useful for answering questions and correcting recipes. Server logs are kept by the hosting provider for the short period needed for security and diagnostics, then discarded.

Where information is processed

The site is served from data centres that may be outside your country, including the United States. Advertising cookies are set and controlled by Google under its own policies, not by this site.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and ordinary email is not encrypted end to end, so please do not send sensitive personal information.

Links to other sites

Some pages link elsewhere. Once you leave Bowl & Loaf, the privacy policy of the site you land on applies, not this one.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A material change, such as adding an analytics provider, will be noted on this page before it takes effect.
